Crain’s Chicago Business: UIC Gets Grant From Melinda Gates-Backed Effort To Boost Women In Tech

Melinda Gates wants to help increase the number of women in tech, and she’s looking to Chicago to lead the way.

The University of Illinois at Chicago’s fast-growing computer-science program is getting a major grant from Break Through Tech, a program that received new funding from Gates and others to help increase the number of women in tech. UIC declined to disclose the exact funding amount but said it’s among the largest gifts ever to the school’s College of Engineering.
